This past Thursday, I had the opportunity to visit with the Grassroot Soccer organization. This organization was created in 2002 by Dr. Tommy Clark, former professional soccer player in Zimbabwe, after seeing first hand the devastation of HIV/AIDS on a community. Through this work, the organization has developed a comprehensive plan to educate youth on preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS through the universal game of soccer.
For myself, seeing the children of the community I visited engaged in learning about themselves and the importance of their health and their community through warm up soccer activities is inspiring. I was tempted to join them in their booty-shaking warm up, but decided to leave it to the youngins.

The organization has set a goal of reaching 1,000,000 children through it’s various worldwide programming by 2014 to coincide with the next World Cup.
